Pinched Nerve

Pinched nerves

What is a Pinched Nerve?

A pinched nerve occurs when body tissue puts pressure on a spinal nerve. You have nerves all the way down your back and throughout your body. These nerves send messages from your brain to your extremities and vice versa. Sometimes, nerves become compressed in soft tissue, resulting in pain somewhere in your body.

Repetitive motions can cause nerve compression in your joints. A bulging or herniated disc in your spine can put pressure on a nerve. Osteoarthritis in your spine also causes pinched nerves. Our team at Theriot Family Chiropractic Center can help determine the root cause of your pinched nerve and develop an effective treatment plan.

What Are the Symptoms of Pinched Nerves?

Symptoms of pinched nerves vary and may be different from person to person. In general, they include:

  • Lower back, neck, or leg pain
  • Pain that radiates through an extremity, such as your leg
  • Numbness or a tingling/burning sensation
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Muscle spasms
  • Weakness in limbs during normal activities

These symptoms may make it difficult for you to walk, sit, or stand even for extended periods of time. You may also have trouble bending over or finding a comfortable sleeping position.

Chiropractic Treatment for Pinched Nerves

Pain relief drugs can dull the pain associated with pinched nerves, but it won't cure the problem. For that, the nerve and/or soft tissues must be restored to the proper position. This is how Dr. Theriot can help.

Chiropractors make spinal adjustments along with therapies like heat or cold therapy and stretching to restore your body to proper function. Our team’s focus at Theriot Family Chiropractic Center is on your overall health and wellness, not just masking your pain. If you feel you have a pinched nerve, contact us at (337) 367-6649  for an appointment. Our team will evaluate your condition so we can get you on the road to recovery!
